The Food Allergen Panel screens for 12 of the most common food allergens, including peanut, milk, egg, shellfish, wheat, and various fruits. While food allergies are most prevalent in babies and children, they can develop at any stage of life—even with foods you’ve consumed without issues for years. This panel may be beneficial if you have a diagnosed or suspected food allergy, or a personal or family history of allergies, asthma, eczema, hives, or hay fever.
Corn Wheat
This marker assesses allergic reactions to proteins found in both corn and wheat, two common grains. Symptoms of an allergy may include hives, itching, digestive issues, or respiratory distress. Because these grains are widely used in processed foods and cooking, identifying sensitivities can help manage dietary choices and prevent reactions.
Cows
A common allergen in children, cow’s milk allergy can trigger symptoms such as skin irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, or anaphylaxis in severe cases.
Crab
A type of shellfish allergy, crab allergy may lead to itching, hives, swelling, or more severe reactions such as difficulty breathing or anaphylaxis.
Egg White
Egg white allergies are typically more common than yolk allergies, as the proteins in the whites are more allergenic. Symptoms may include skin reactions, digestive issues, or respiratory symptoms.
Egg Yolk
Although less allergenic than egg whites, egg yolk allergies can still cause adverse reactions, particularly in young children.
English Walnut
A tree nut allergy to walnuts can cause symptoms ranging from mild itching and swelling to severe anaphylaxis. Tree nut allergies are often lifelong.
Milk
In addition to cow’s milk, this category may test for sensitivities to other types of milk. Symptoms can include hives, vomiting, or wheezing.
Oyster
Oyster allergies fall under shellfish allergies and may cause symptoms like abdominal pain, swelling, or respiratory issues, often appearing later in life.
Peanut
One of the most common food allergies, peanuts can trigger severe reactions, including anaphylaxis. Peanut allergies often develop in childhood and are rarely outgrown.
Shrimp
Another common shellfish allergen, shrimp can provoke symptoms such as itching, swelling, or even severe respiratory distress.
Soybean
Soy allergies often begin in infancy and may cause digestive issues, skin reactions, or respiratory problems. Some individuals outgrow soy allergies over time.
Tuna
Fish allergies, including tuna, are typically lifelong and can cause reactions like hives, nausea, or anaphylaxis, often distinct from shellfish allergies.
